Does your child…

  • find it hard to make friends or to play with others?

  • avoid eye contact?

  • struggle to follow instructions or understand what is being said to them?

  • not use any words or only use a small number of words?

  • find it difficult to say certain words?

  • use shorter sentences than their peers?

  • get stuck on words?

  • have difficulty making certain speech sounds?

  • struggle to be understood?

If you have concerns that your child has difficulties with any of these then please do contact us to discuss whether a Speech and Language Therapy assessment is appropriate for your child.

Assessment

Parents: Our Services

Meeting someone for the first time can be scary, let alone when they are ‘assessing’ you. So your child needs to feel safe and relaxed, be motivated, having fun and enjoying what they are doing to make sure we get the most accurate picture of their needs.

We know that every child will respond in a different way so we use a range of informal (interaction, observation and play based) and formal (standardised and norm-referenced) assessments to engage your child in the way that is right for them.

We offer assessment visits at home and in education settings (for all age groups across Sussex, Brighton and Hove and surrounding areas), as well as in our comfortable family friendly clinic in Worthing.

Therapy

Following an assessment, we work closely with children, young people and their families to develop therapy packages tailored to their individual needs. Together we will set speech, language and communication goals that are achievable and can become part of your daily lives. We will revisit these goals on a regular basis to review progress and ensure that they remain the right goals for you.

We want parents/carers to be involved in therapy so will encourage them to be hands on during sessions. Therapists will model activities and give families the chance to take part in activities to support their child’s development outside of the therapy session.
