Highly Specialist

Speech and Language Therapist

About Us: About Us

I have always been interested in the voice and communication so decided to train to be a Speech and Language Therapist. Once I started the speech therapy course, I realised there is more to communication than just how we use our voices. This realisation led me to specialise in supporting children with a wider range of speech, language and communication needs.

I have been working as a Speech and Language Therapist since I qualified in 2008. I started working for the NHS in London before moving with my family to West Sussex. As a Highly Specialist Speech and Language Therapist I have worked with children in mainstream pre-schools, primary and secondary schools who have complex communication needs. I have worked in a number of specialist education settings delivering 1:1 sessions as well as supporting individuals and teaching staff in the classroom. I have also worked in community clinics, in families’ homes and in hospital settings where I worked with Paediatricians as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering specialist Autism diagnostic assessments. More recently I have worked in the NHS as a Clinical Manager, responsible for a team of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists.

My favourite part of being a Speech and Language Therapist is working closely with families to give them the skills to be able to support their child’s communication needs. I enjoy seeing the difference that an early intervention can make and watching children begin to communicate and engage more effectively with their environment.

I specialise in working with pre-verbal early years children, dysfluency, eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties, autistic children and helping to develop the foundation skills required for communication. Although I am based in Worthing my work takes me across Sussex supporting clients in East Sussex, West Sussex, Brighton and Hove as well as surrounding areas.

My eating, drinking and swallowing work covers all ages from 6 months of age upwards.

About Us: About Us

Prior to graduating from City University with a Post Graduate Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy, I worked with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) within Specialist schools in Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex and Wimbledon, London. I have worked with children with SEN for over 20 years, 15 years of those as a Speech and Language Therapist.

I currently work for the NHS within a Pre School-Complex Needs Team in West Sussex and privately with slt4me Ltd, working with school aged children with Autistic Spectrum Condition (ASC), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD and Social Emotional Mental Health (SEMH) and Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN).

I have great interest and knowledge in the use of AAC in supporting communication and providing children with a voice. I am a registered Makaton Tutor providing training to parents, carers and settings, alongside embedding the Makaton language programme into my clinical work with children and young people. I am trained to an Intermediate level in the area of Dysphagia (eating and drinking difficulties).
